Hello, and Welcome! My name is Starlet Ware.

My Background: I graduated from the University of Nebraska Omaha (U.N.O.) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, December 1991. Although I have only recently answered the call to open a website, I attest to not being new to proofreading. I have proofread for many of my 60 years of life. I actually don't recall I time I haven't proofread things at work, church, school, online or at play. Any document that crosses my path is fair game to get proofread; dissertations, books, articles, magazines, websites, and more.

My Why: I can remember when my method changed from making every person sound the same to joining the writers' journey to be understood well. It was when my Son was in middle or high school and he asked me to read his paper. I did. When I gave the paper back to him, all marked up and thinking I had done him, and the world a favor, he verbalized that I had ruined his paper. Why? Because it didn't sound like him. 

He said, "It sounds like you."

I had taken the Writer out of his own work. Needless to say, we were both hurt, frustrated, and he did his own rework. He wouldn't let me review his papers for several years after that.

When he gave me another chance to help, I read that piece of writing in his voice. I made suggestions, he accepted or tweaked it as he chose, and that paper turned out beautifully. Him trusting me to try again was a huge blessing. I credit my son, Brandon, for being honest and giving me the feedback which makes me a better proofreader.
